Vervet monkeys are frequent visitors to the garden and can be seen in the trees surrounding the villa but do not come close to people ~ unlike the Lesser Antillian Finches who are very cheeky and will take crumbs from your table on the veranda or even from your fingers. Hummingbirds hover in front of flowers to get at their pollen and yellow breasted Bannaquits are common too whilst at night, the chirruping sound of tree frogs fills the air and fireflies provide enchanting displays. There are books in the house on Caribbean wildlife, flowers, trees and fruits.
The third of an acre garden has over 50 trees on it – most indigenous but some planted by the owners. Beautiful flowers on Flamboyant trees, on Cordia, Wild Orchid and Wild Frangipani add splashes of colour to the greenery while many other interesting trees can easily be identified around the site and along the little ‘woodland walk’ that has been created – Tamarind, Lignum Vitae, Neem, Lime, Gum trees ……and many more who’s names we don’t know yet.
